The Dodge Viper has that illustrious history that other cars can only dream of - a true-blooded collaborative success between Dodge and Lamborghini, even the first generation, launched in 1992, made huge waves across the automotive industry. After all, this wasn't just a Dodge - this was a sports-car imbued with the energy and the experience that has and continues to make Lamborghini one of the top brands in the world.
Eager angled and radiant in the way it the hood slopes up and forward, there's really something special about a Viper of any generation. We can't ignore the fact that the efforts from Team Viper and, in parallel, Team Prowler, have ushered in a new standard of sporty cars that reflect the luxury car brands with an affordability that does not skimp out on quality.
From the original production model of the Viper, equipped with the 323 kg Lamborghini-developed engine with over 400 horsepower, this was a vehicle that made itself known wherever it went. The original run of the TA, in contrast, was much more powerful but in a limited number production set, it has become a bit of an automotive unicorn - with the next model expected to receive the same treatment.
The second generation, released in 2003 and running to 2007 improved on many of the original Viper's design decisions while also offering more horsepower and an optimized transmission.
This has led us to the present - The VX model Viper, released in 2013 and still in production, drivers have been recently introduced to the Viper TA 2.0 option, which, well, is a pretty amazing addition to an already well-established brand.
What do you get from the Viper TA 2.0 special edition model? For something rated as being a Time Attack model, you should be expecting quite a bit.
What don't you get from it is probably an easier question to ask - with SRT features including new accent stitching, Alcantara accents on doors and instrument panels are highlighted by the Viper badge on the aluminum sill plates. Under the hood you'll be moving at a comfortable adrenaline-coursing speed with the support of the all-star 8.4-litre aluminum V10 engine that unleashes a resourceful 645 horsepower and 600 lb-ft of torque.
These features are paired with Tremec six-speed manual transmission with flashy 18/19 inch polished Rattler wheels, electronic stability control, dual side exhausts, four-wheel Brembo brakes, and offers incredibly efficient HID automatic headlamps with daylight LED running lambs and taillamps.
Inside, luxury and legendary features await. On this list you'll want to note the 7-inch reconfigurable driver display with 8.4-inch Uconnect touch multimedia centre that will get you in and out of places easily thanks to ParkView rear back-up camera and 3D navigation.
Still, there's even more to the TA 2.0, with specially upgraded and specifically-tuned suspension system which includes the two-mode Bilstein Damptronic coupled with high-performance spring, stabilizer bar and springs. Note the addition of carbon-fiber structural X-brace for improved control and the fact that these updates have improved, by 50-percent, the torsional rigidity and aided the Viper reach a significantly improved track performance.
